Get Into The Hugging Mood

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I discovered this new website called rssHugger in early November but wasn’t all that convince back then that its strategy would work to garner global attention through the power of internet and viral marketing.

In their own words:

“rssHugger is a unique website that aims to bring bloggers and readers together. rssHugger aims to provide blog owners with a unique easy-to-use way to promote their blogs by sending them traffic, building backlinks for search engine optimization, as well as attracting new rss subscribers if the content is interesting to the reader. rssHugger aims to help visitors be able to easily find blogs that write about subjects they are interested in.”

Previously, to own a rssHugger page for 10 years, you either pay a one-time fee of $20 or get $10 off when you review the website and the service it offers.

The Week In Review (18/11 - 24/11)

The blogosphere was pretty much shaken up by the Googlerization this past week, with many everyday bloggers in the PayPerPost network getting their blog’s PageRank annihilated to ground ZERO! Amdist all the chaos and uncertainties, there are still much postive vibes and healthy pulses beating in other aspects of this vast community and we are here to bring you the ups and the downs! As they saying goes, “the show must on….“.

  • Early in the week, news filtered through that CashQuest dot com was sold for a BIN price of $15000. I’ve been a fan of Kumiko since her blogspot days. Her abilitiy to call out SCAMs right in their face won her many fans and stirring up controversy by disabling comment on the popular CashQuest only made her more popular! She is one talented lady whose personality precedes that of the blog itself. This blog was very fortunate to have won a free review from Kumiko, which brought a nice volume of traffic (and is still sending traffic here) here. Alas, all good things must come to an end. Sayonara Kumiko san…..thanks for the memories, it was great blog reading experience while it lasted.
  • While many Posties whose blogs got nuked are picking up the pieces and rebuilding their “lives”, Snoskred wrote a massive post about the recent Googlerization and question whether Google is the new terrorist? Google are trying to change the blogosphere forever by planting fear into minds of bloggers and webmasters. These people are frightened. These people are terrorized. These people are under a lot of stress because they don’t know what will happen next. Her advice is never negotiate with a terrorist. Rather than be frieghten into submission, Snoskred is holding a little competition to celebrate her PageRank drop. Don’t take PageRank too seriously folks, let’s celebrate together with our mate from Down under.
  • If you haven’t learn your blogging lesson already, here’s a free tip - don’t put all your eggs in the Google basket! Gaining exposure for your blog is critical to building a following, readership, and revenue. Basic link building for blogs begins with listing them in blog directories. Loren Baker of Search Engine Journal took a glimpse inside the large and vast world of blog directories and put together a list of 20 essential blog directories to submit your blog to.
  • Monika at The Writers Manifesto is holding the Shake It Up $100 Contest for November, and it sounds like a win-win contest for all who enter. One lucky winner will be randomly drawn on 30 November to walk away with $100, but all contestants will benefit from a juicy bit of link love in the form of a free backlink from a PR3 blog. Head over to The Writers Manifesto blog right now to find out the many different ways you can enter.
  • Making Sales Making Money is a blog that tells you the truth about home based business opportunities, is sponsoring $100 in one of the many sweepstakes and blog contests you can find on Contest Blogger. A winner will be randomly drawn on 3 December. Here’s the $100 question: what the heck are you waiting for?

BlogRush Redux

It’s been a few weeks since BlogRush launched version 2 of their stats system but I haven’t bother to blog about it, until now. It is pretty safe to say I am getting less and less convinced that it will send this blog any significant traffic.

The BlogRush widget was installed on this blog in mid September and I, like every BR users, was sold on their promise of it being “the fastest and easiest to instantly drive a flood of targeted readers to you blog…“. I was hoping to enjoy rush hour traffic in every way possible, unfortunately, it never quite happens here.

It certainly didn’t help that the previous BlogRush system was gamed by blogs using black hat SEO tactics to gain undeserved syndication credits. One month into the widget being launched, the BlogRush team had to go back to the drawing board, manually evaluating thousands and thousands of blogs in their network.

Be Googlerized Or Be Square

Just when we thought we’ve seen the last of Google PageRank mood swings, the big G had other ideas. Earlier, Google went to town bitch slapping blogs selling text-link ads, targeting mostly high profile authority blogs to send out a strong message. Now it has set its sight on paid reviews and has gone after everyday bloggers in the PayPerPost network. Many blogs that make money via PayPerPost had their PageRank nuked to ground ZERO!

While many nuked Posties are still licking their PR wounds (or whatever that’s left), IZEA - the new umbrella corporation that includes PayPerPost - is not taking all this crap lying down. They are working on a solution called RealRank which is based, not on the whimsical mood of a mega giant that thinks it can control the Internet, but on:

  • 70% weighted towards visitors per day
  • 20% weighted towards amount of ACTIVE inbound links per day
  • 10% weighted towards pageviews per day
