Disasterize The Web!

Now we are officially into the time of the year where festive spirits rein and people are generally in a happy state of mind and in a more forgiving mood. Just in case some of you are still feeling sore for being bullied online, getting conned in scams, or simply lost your mojo and need to vent those pent up frustrations, don’t go smashing up your keyboards or PC screens just yet.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
There’s a cost-free way to vent your anger and take your sweet revenge online without getting into trouble. Oh, it’s also an anti-productivity tool and a total office time-waster! Netdisaster is a fun online tool where you can DISASTERIZE websites or blogs belonging to people you dislike or those who have caused grave injustice to you! Read the rest of this entry »

AGLOCO Is Dead - R.I.P

Today I received an email announcing the demise of a website. A site which had promised so much, yet delivered so little. In fact, it didn’t deliver at all to us, its members. By now you may have read blog posting about this latest Internet news, AGLOCO is DEAD!!

Dear Ng,

We would like to update you on the status of AGLOCO’s operations. We continue to believe in the AGLOCO concept, but our revenue is currently not sufficient to give Members a meaningful distribution. And though there are increases in membership, the resulting revenue is not enough to support operating costs. As a development team we are unable to continue to use our savings to fund the operations. If any Member would like to pursue continuing the operations of AGLOCO, you may contact us at agloco1@live.com .

We would like to thank every Member for supporting our effort to bring a piece of the Internet directly to the user. We hope that we can find a way to keep the operations going.

AGLOCO Development Team

The concept of getting paid to surf the Internet was simply too good to pass up. On that basis, I signed up as a member in March and received this welcome message:

Dear Ng,

Thank you for confirming your AGLOCO Membership!
Your AGLOCO Member ID# is: BBCQ5810

You’ve taken the first step, but to make your Membership even more valuable, there’s something more you should do:

TELL YOUR FRIENDS TO JOIN AGLOCO!

AGLOCO needs your help to grow the network. Over 90% of all new Members are referred by existing Members. The larger the AGLOCO community grows, the more valuable it becomes for all Members, and the more you can earn yourself.

AGLOCO rewards Members who help grow the network, so get busy!

Thanks,

Dan Jorgensen
AGLOCO Member Coordinator

With that done, we waited in anticipation for the viewbar to be ready for members to download in order to start accumulating AGLOCO hours, earned while we surf, in exchange for easy riches. We waited, and waited, the official release date got delayed a couple of times. Some members ran out of patience and doubts started appearing in our minds questioning whether AGLOCO is for real. These ghost were laid to rest when we received an update in June informing us the all clear to download the by now infamous viewbar.

Dear Ng,

We are pleased to report that your AGLOCO Viewbar has been released and is ready for you to download now. Since you signed up with AGLOCO, our community has continued to grow even larger, stronger, and more active. With the Viewbar software, we are excited for each Member of the AGLOCO community to begin earning their share of the wealth generated on the Internet.

Blah blah blah blah…..

Dan Jorgensen
Member Coordinator

Fast forward to present time, a good 5 months since the viewbar went live, no one got paid a dime (at least never heard of it being reported) and now, it was pronounced DEAD!! The signs were omnipresent, signs that all were not right, it was heading for gloom right from the beginning. It was a wrecked relationship from start to finish.

Lesson learnt
If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I wouldn’t go so far as to say AGLOCO is a scam or a get-rich-quick scheme. In my opinion, it was a good idea, just managed and excuted poorly. Luckily, we didn’t lose anything other than some dash hopes of making money while doing our favourite activity. I’m sure there are people out there who had invested some money to build their network, hoping an expanded referral network will “work” that much for them, and earn them Internet riches. I feel sorry if you are one of them and hope you take it as school fee for a lesson well-learnt.

The Week In Review (02/12 - 08/12)

While I’ve hit a roadblock recently, it is certainly not the end of the road for this blog. I can’t really pinpoint any reasons that have resulted in this dry patch but Michelle of Bloggrrl provided us 8 really good excuses for not blogging and updating her blog in the second half of November.
This cartoon here aptly describes the current situation I found myself in.

Think Before You Blog

  • Perhaps I should take a leaf out of Gyutae Park’s book from Winning the web on the processes that he use for brainstorming new ideas and implementing them on websites and businesses. Then maybe my creative juices will start to flow like an uncontrollable waterfall. Park has generated unique blogging ideas like free blog audit - to encourage comments on his blog, and blog hopping - sort of a give back to the community.
  • Over at the barn, JohnCow won a Playstation 3 in a blog contest from Darin.cc three months ago but has yet to received the prize. Apparently, he is not the only (certainly not the first) winner who had won and is still waiting for their prizes. The cow felt tricked and questioned Darin’s credibility and reputation. I’ve also took part in Darin’s last contest to win an iPhoneand this must be the only time I will say that I’m glad I’ve not won it.
  • Search Engine Journal had posted a huge list of 125 social bookmarking sites in alphabetical order, some of which are very popular and others, which are newer or somewhat unheard of. You will find some diamonds in the rough that are niche oriented or treated well by Google and other search engines. I’m not aware there are so many social bookmarking sites out there! Wow!!
