Big Walk On Water

On a glorious November Sunday morning, I was among more than 20,000 fun walkers to “walk on water” and became one of the first to visit the magnificent Barrage and reservoir at Marina Bay. No, this is not some kind of mass cult ritual where we inherit evil supernatural power and threaten to take over the world. Far from it.

It is actually a fun mass-walking event, which was dubbed “Big Walk on Water”, which also marks the 20th anniversary of The New Paper, offered participants a chance to “walk on water” by crossing the dam across the Marina Channel. The views along the 5km scenic route are breathtaking - the fresh water bay, the cityscape, Esplanade, iconic hotels, Singapore Flyer, golf course, and of course, the world-class Marina Barrage.

Well, I’ve always subscribe to the idea that a picture is worth a thousand words. So join me as I retraced my journey of my “walk on water” through some photos and video of this historical event.

Looks like a good time! Was there an entry fee or limit to the number of participants?

We had a great time fun walking through the scenic route that ended at the newest and coolest icon - Marina Barrage.

In previous year, the Big Walk is a 10km (competitive and non-competitive)mass-walking event where a token $3 fee was imposed. Participation rate easily average 50,000 in this annual event.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of The New Paper, this year’s walk is free but is limited to 20,000 walkers.
